- QUALIFICATIONS: A good indication of experience and knowledge is ICPI certification (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute).
- REFERENCES: Request two or three references. Any reputable contractor would be pleased to provide you with a number of references — satisfied homeowners who had their project completed by their firm.
- INSURANCE: Request proof of proper insurance.
- PLACE OF BUSINESS: Make certain your contractor has an established place of business.
- INSTALLATION ESTIMATE: For comparison purposes, you may want to request more than one proposal or estimate. Before signing a contract, take the time to read it carefully — including any and all fine print.
- PRODUCT SELECTION: Your dealer or contractor can assist you in identifying the products, colors and shapes best suited for your particular project. To assure your total satisfaction, it's always a good idea to request actual samples of the product to be used.
- GUARANTEE: Each submitted estimate should include a written workmanship guarantee, along with any existing manufacturer's warranty covering the materials to be used. The standard workmanship guarantee is 2-years.
- BUILDING PERMITS: Make sure there is an understanding (written or otherwise) as to who will be responsible for securing the proper building permits. Your contract should also include wording stipulating that your installation will meet all current building codes.
Word of Caution: Be suspicious of unrealistically low bids — estimates that allow for "equivalent" materials.
